Our Commitment to Safeguarding
At Coppull St John’s CE Primary School, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. We are fully committed to providing a safe, secure and nurturing environment where all pupils feel valued, respected and protected.
Our safeguarding arrangements are in line with statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), and reflect local procedures set by Lancashire safeguarding partners.
All staff, governors and volunteers receive regular safeguarding training and understand their duty to identify and report concerns.

Early Help and Family Support
We recognise that families sometimes need additional support. Early help can prevent concerns from escalating and ensure children and families receive the right support at the right time.
We work closely with Lancashire Family Hubs, including services in the Chorley area. Family Hubs provide:
-
Parenting advice and courses
-
Support for babies and young children
-
SEND support
-
Health visitor and midwife services
-
Emotional wellbeing support
-
Advice on family challenges
Families can contact their local Chorley Family Hub directly or speak to school for help with referrals.
Additional support is also available through local charities and early help services. Please contact the school office if you would like guidance.
Online Safety
Keeping children safe online is a key priority. Pupils are taught how to stay safe online through our curriculum, and we work with parents to promote safe and responsible technology use at home.
If you are concerned about online exploitation or abuse, you can report directly to CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection).
Children can also contact Childline on 0800 1111 for confidential support.
Operation Encompass
Coppull St John’s CE Primary School is part of Operation Encompass.
Operation Encompass is a national initiative that supports children who may have been exposed to domestic abuse. Through this partnership, the police will inform our school, prior to the start of the next school day, if a child has been involved in or exposed to a domestic abuse incident.
This information is shared confidentially with our Designated Safeguarding Lead so that we can provide appropriate support, care and understanding for the child during the school day.
We are committed to ensuring that children feel safe, supported and listened to, and Operation Encompass helps us to respond quickly and sensitively to children who may be experiencing difficulties at home.
If you would like more information about Operation Encompass, please contact the school office.
Working in Partnership
Safeguarding is most effective when schools and families work together. We encourage parents and carers to:
-
Share concerns early
-
Keep contact details up to date
-
Inform school of any changes that may affect a child’s wellbeing
If you ever feel unsure about something, please talk to us. No concern is too small when it comes to keeping children safe.
