Welcome to Sycamore Class
We are a mixed-age Year 5/ Year 6 class, which means our students learn together across two year groups. This provides a wonderful opportunity for children to share ideas, support each other, and learn at their own pace. Each child is encouraged and challenged according to their individual strengths and learning goals. In our class, we love exploring new topics, working together on creative projects, and celebrating every child’s achievements. On this page, you’ll find everything you need to know about our class, our learning, and ways to support your child at home.

Curriculum Overview
Please click the ink at the top of the page for the Sycamore class long-term overview. We follow a two-year curriculum cycle and are currently following Cycle B. Over these two years, children cover all the content required in the National Curriculum for Upper Key Stage 2. This ensures every child experiences a broad and balanced curriculum, with learning planned progressively while accommodating the needs and abilities of both year groups in the class.
Routines
In Sycamore class we have daily early morning tasks laid out for the children between 8:45 and 9am. Children are therefore encouraged to arrive promptly at 8:45 to begin their activities before the official start time.
Homework: Weekly, set Mondays, due in the following Monday
PE day is Tuesday

This Year in Our Class
This year is full of exciting learning opportunities for our class:
· We visit Inspire Youth Zone in Chorley to take part in Crucial Crew – an event organised by local emergency services to help us learn about practical ways of keeping ourselves and each other safe!
· In February, we have a fantastic opportunity to visit our capital city – London – for Speaker’s Day. As the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, is our local MP, this gives us a unique opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament for a Q and A with Mr Speaker and to learn about his role in Parliament. In addition to this, we have the chance to see London from above on the London Eye and take in the famous sights of the capital!
· In May, we do our annual residential visit to Hothersall Lodge, where we take part in amazing activities such as canoeing, climbing, orienteering and mountain biking. We also spend a whole day at the spectacular Malham Cove in North Yorkshire and get to stand on the top of the cove – where they filmed a Harry Potter movie!
· We go on educational visits linked tour topics – for example, we visit the Imperial War Museum in Manchester when we learn about World War Two.
· We take part in lots of clubs and competitions each year through the Chorley School Sports Partnership and have a very successful track record in the small schools football tournament – winning the competition in two out of the last three years!
· We have access to lots of clubs such as football, dodgeball, fencing, mad science and cricket.
There is something for every child to enjoy and be inspired by.
