Welcome to Oak Class

We are a mixed-age Reception/ Year 1 and Year 2 class, which means our students learn together across three year groups. This provides a wonderful opportunity for children to share ideas, support each other, and learn at their own pace. Each child is encouraged and challenged according to their individual strengths and learning goals. In our class, we love exploring new topics, working together on creative projects, and celebrating every child’s achievements. On this page, you’ll find everything you need to know about our class, our learning, and ways to support your child at home.

Curriculum Overview

Please click the link at the top of this page for the Oak class long-term overview. Children explore the same topics, with teaching and learning designed to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum. Activities are adapted so that every child engages with the same themes in ways that suit their stage of learning. This ensures that all children make continuous progress, develop key skills, and deepen their understanding while taking part fully in class experiences.

Routines

In Oak class we have daily early morning tasks laid out for the children between 8:45 and 9am. Children are therefore encouraged to arrive promptly at 8:45 to begin their activities before the official start time.

Homework: Weekly spellings will go home on a Monday to be applied in lessons during the week and weekly homework will also come home on a Monday to be in by Thursday. The homework will alternate between Maths, reading and Phonics.

PE: Tuesday - please ensure children come to school in PE kits on this day.

Library: Wednesday

Forest School: Thursday am- please ensure children come to school in their forest school clothes and bring their uniform in a bag.

This Year in Our Class

This year is full of exciting learning opportunities for our class. We have explored our outdoor area, taking our learning outside at every opportunity; weekly Forest School sessions, explored celebrations from both our culture and others such as Bonfire Night, Christmas, Chinese New Year and Diwali; holding stay and play and stay and learn sessions to invite our parents in to see our learning in action; role playing; access to provision throughout the day and interactive, sensory and engaging resources available to enhance and extend our learning. There is something for every child to enjoy and be inspired by.
